the closest they get to outward affection is when they’re both getting older and taako makes merle promise that if, gods forbid, merle outlives him, merle will make a memorable scene at the funeral (taako draws the line at full nudity but says that exaggerated drunkenness would be ideal). merle pats him on the knee and promises to flirt with kravitz with so little subtlety that the papers will talk about it for months. taako wipes a semi real tear from his eye. “you really know me,” he says.
