Ok no lol truly wasn’t about the argument itself, English isn’t even my first language so how would i know? Got our own slurs to deal with. Just thought this person seemed shady, the way they were putting words in the mouth of an hypothetical teen right after basically praising themselves into being “the reason why you have rights” & the wise “old” 30+ yo (according to her bio). Doesn’t hurt to be careful when people online make such extravagant claims. Ever heard of medievalpoc? (cont.)

powerfulpomegranate:

(cont.) She became popular because she photoshopped old paintings to make people think they were picturing black people. Set up donations, scammed lots of people. Different situation i know, except surprise! that person also sells books and has set up donations. Could be something, could be nothing. But that’s why people’s attitude & way of wording their opinion is also important to check, not just the opinion itself. Anyways you do what you want with that, jmho.

…Are you seriously insinuating that because someone wrote a book and is advertising it on their blog that they’re on the same level as someone who scams people? Really? Because they both sell books?

And it’s not an extravagant claim. They’re not stating that they singlehandedly led the the Australian LGBTQ uprising or whatever, but that they did contribute years to a movement that helped that country progress, which is perfectly believable, and they bring that up for the post’s argument, not as a statement expecting awe or praise for whatever it is that they contributed. Is it that hard to believe that there are actual activists on this site?? I don’t know what got lost in translation here man, if English is the thing that’s messing it up, but I feel like there’s some context that’s being missed, but they’re clearly stating credentials for the upcoming statement, like you do in a debate, not clamoring for attention.

But also, it’s not up to me to defend some random person whom, again, i don’t know, when the reason I reblogged the post in the first place was what they were saying, not the abrasive way they were saying it. Don’t pretend you’re enlightening me to the pandemic of scammers, if you knew me at all, you’d know I’m not very susceptible to swindling. This is coming across as a lecture and I don’t like a stranger coming in and telling me my approach to judgement of character is flawed when it’s served me better than those of a lot of people on this site. There’s not a lot of things I get defensively prideful about, but that’s one of them: I can generally tell when people do things for attention to exploit (I was in Sales for a year for crying out loud, I had to learn to do it myself), and when not, and I’m telling you here, you’re comparing apples to oranges.

is this anon fucking serious?  @asynca wrote books that features people in the community and they’re comparing that to a literal lying scam???

Oh my god.   Oh my goddddddd.

Don’t sprain yourself with that reach, anon.
