I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted to make as the proposing party, but ultimately went with Draco. I think it’d be much funnier if he were the one making a huge mess of himself :’)
Perfect. Everything is going to be perfect.
Draco recited the mantra in his head over and over again in an attempt to calm himself. His heart was in his throat and his forehead gleamed with a thin sheen of sweat as he fidgeted with his sleeves. He had bought a muggle suit just for this occasion, including a dark red tie that he hoped Harry would appreciate.
“Draco, are you ready?” came a shout from downstairs which snapped Draco back to reality.
“One second!” Draco called out, quickly making his way to the bedroom dresser.
He fumbled through the top drawer, finding a small black box hidden beneath the many pairs of socks and with shaky hands he opened it to look inside for the millionth time. Within was a simple gold ring that gleamed up at Draco, making his stomach churn and he snapped the box closed quickly, stuffing it in his coat pocket and straightening out his suit.
Tonight was going to be perfect. Draco had planned it for ages, making special reservations at a fancy muggle restaurant nearly four months ago just to assure they had the best seats. His plan was to wine and dine his boyfriend first, then the two would stop at a sweets shop for dessert, and afterwards they would take a lovely stroll through the park where Draco would stop them beneath a streetlamp and kneel down to propose. He had even written an entire speech for the occasion, practicing and reciting it to himself whenever he had the chance.
Not wanting to keep Harry waiting anymore, Draco quickly exited the bedroom and made his way downstairs where his boyfriend indeed was waiting. He was dressed in a black suit as well, and Draco’s heart skipped a beat when he looked the handsome man up and down. At the sight of Draco, Harry smiled brightly and held out a hand for the blond to take.
“You look amazing,” Harry said softly, green eyes shining brightly.
“As do you,” Draco replied and wiped a clammy hand on his coat before taking Harry’s in his own. “Sorry I kept you waiting.”
“Mmm,” Harry hummed, pressing a soft, sweet kiss to Draco’s lips. “Don’t worry about it babe, I- are you wearing my tie?”
“A-ah yeah,” Draco answered quickly, “I, uh, couldn’t find mine so I just borrowed this one.”
Harry hummed again and lifted his free hand to touch the maroon tie. “Actually, I think I quite like it. Gryffindor colors do look pretty good on you, if you ask me.”
Draco chuckled and rolled his eyes, feeling warmth in his chest as Harry acknowledged the tie. “Everything looks good on me, Potter.”
A few retorts and compliments later and the two made their way out into the cold winter weather, walking a bit until they could properly apparate away. So far, so good. Draco thought to himself. Dinner next. What could possibly go wrong?
