Guys, friendly reminder that it is ILLEGAL to buy or sell the likeness of a real person without permission.
Most fanart is illegal to sell, in fact, but fanart of real people is illegal to sell, too. Unless it’s a parody, unrecognizably derivative, or it’s licensed (which is when a company pays you a fee to draw stuff for them that they later sell as merchandise), be careful. Many media companies turn a blind eye to low level fan art because it’s free advertising for them, but many don’t (your girl is so high profile that she doesn’t even bother because she gets a C&D at the drop of a hat)—and real people are off limits.
A lot of us have been working super hard for years to change things, and many companies are starting to not only realize the benefits of allowing fan art but also of hiring fan artists, but it’s not safe yet.
Just be careful out there.
