oh yeah i forgot to mention it in the chapter notes but HEY
you ever think about how IPRE’s eyes might not be as sensitive to sunlight as other people on this world? bc they were from a world with 2 suns? barry can just look straight at the sun post-memory-wipe like “this really isn’t bright enough to burn out my eyes idk why the sun’s so dim” and he probably talked to several people abt it, repeatedly getting the answer of “no the sun is definitely bright, also stop staring at it” and just getting really confused
this effect is heightened by the fact that a purple sky has more contrast w/ the sun’s yellowish light than a light blue sky does, meaning the suns back on their original world appeared even brighter than the current world one, even without the advantage of numbers
the humans– the only ones on the crew without darkvision– would feel the difference most strongly, because their eyes aren’t as sensitive to light in the first place. Magnus tries to work in the brightest hours of the day; glasses don’t help him at all in the evening. Lucretia deals with it by having her private quarters stay darker than everywhere else, so her eyes will adjust. And Barry– well, he’s afraid of the dark anyway.
The others, whose darkvision made the sunlight on their world feel sharp, actually like the light levels a lot, once they adjust. It’s kinder, more ideal for their eyes. But because darkvision is kicking in to help them, they don’t see colors quite as vividly.
When Merle casts Light in the gerblin cave, he casts it brighter than most people (though he’s not sure why people say that). He’s expecting Magnus and Taako to complain about it, but they don’t. It’s the perfect level of light for them.
oh yeah also i forgot to mention this but like…
idk if this happens for anyone else, but you know when you kinda zone out staring at a bright light and you get mesmerized by it? like you get stuck starin at like, a ceiling light? somethin bright enough to draw you in but dim enough to not hurt ur eyes immediately
anyway the whole ipre crew does this with The Actual Sun and everyone’s worried constantly about it
