I honestly do love ‘em to death, too. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve gotten exhausted with very cynical fiction. Not just because I can turn on the news and see humanity doing its worst whenever I want, but also because I’ve begun to find cynical, human-bonds-are-meaningless stories to be, well…immature.
If you’re writing a story with a power of friendship/love etc. kind of deal, the most important thing of all is to make sure we care about the characters. When that happens, then power-of-friendship stuff isn’t going to feel corny, or like a cop-out, because you want to see the characters succeed and show their bonds. Even if it is technically a stretch for characters to suddenly get crazy new abilities or just win because they love their friends…generally the audience doesn’t care, because it’s still good to see it happen.
You’re not gonna please everyone, obviously, but first and foremost you should write the kinda stuff that makes you happy. And if you like power of friendship type stories, then totally go for it. Goodness knows the world needs every ounce of positive human relationships it can get, even fictional ones!
@drakenflagreon we were talking about stuff like this earlier. more happy endings dammit
