Hypothetically, it you were dating someone, and then after a little while of you being together by pure coincidence your mother, and their father started dating and wanted to get married…. would you be forced to break up with that person? Would it make your relationship incestuous?

Anyways, in this weird hypothetical situation – if we hadn’t been raised in a family unit together and we weren’t blood related then no I don’t think it’s incestuous.

of course that’s a western culturally informed view and there are societies where marrying an in-law IS considered incestuous, or at least frowned upon. But in terms of like….. my understandings of the potential harms of incest, I don’t see why it would hurt anyone beyond some awkward explanations.

this is really weird, its like asking someone to place their parent’s relationship at a higher priority than their own.  Which… no????

Honestly I don’t see a problem with continuing the relationship as is.  

You have it right with the awkward explanations, but things like this have happened before and people just move on with their lives and have funny stories to tell at family reunions or something.
