Yeah, Eddie and Venom were great, but Anne was such an unexpected delight
She was betrayed and hurt by Eddie and his actions and she got to keep her reaction to that. She wasn’t framed as in the wrong for breaking up with Eddie, she was framed as being rightfully hurt by his choice to break her privacy and trust. Her reaction was never portrayed as irrational or foolish. Eddie’s good intentions didn’t justify her pain.
And she wasn’t just given a boyfriend to keep her occupied until she saw the error of her ways and went back to Eddie. Instead, her boyfriend was a genuinely good man who wanted to help her and help Eddie. Anne’s boyfriend wasn’t an obstacle to overcome or a delay on her path to true love with Eddie.
Anne was never forced to “learn her lesson” after Eddie finds proof that the Life Foundation was indeed doing horrible things to people. She chose to help Eddie and acknowledge what he was saying, but she never had to apologize for doubting him. Instead, he apologized to her for the pain he caused. Anne is allowed her emotions even as she assists him.
There wasn’t even a moment when Venom used the fact that he had been inside Anne’s head to tell Eddie that she still loves him. Venom was privy to all her thoughts and memories but he didn’t try and convince Eddie that she still had feelings and that Eddie should continue to pursue her. At the end, Venom frames it as “we are going to get her back” instead of “I know she loves you, so go get her.”
Could the film have done more with Anne? Sure. But she was a fully realized character with her own motivations who made her own decisions and was given the space to own her emotions. And she even got a nice moment in the final fight, using her knowledge about sound to try and stop Riot.
