So if you lived in a society where you had to secure your communication in order to be yourself around others, here are the apps that could help you do that.

Signal let’s you securely text and make phone calls.

Onion Browser allows you to surf the web without leaving a trail.

Duck Duck Go isn’t super secure but it won’t record your searches like Google.

ProtonMail is a email client that lets you email other secure email accounts.

Periscope allows you to stream live video.

Semaphor is there so you can securely make group chat rooms.

American privacy laws allow you to use these all. So that’s pretty cool.

Because we’re currently living in the prologue of a cyberpunk dystopian novel, imma reblog this.

“Our short-term goals are to get folks home for the holidays”

• There are more African American men incarcerated in the U.S. than the total prison populations in India, Argentina, Canada, Lebanon, Japan, Germany, Finland, Israel and England, combined.

• Ziegler, a PhD recipient now based in Oakland, explains that a July tweet proposing the app idea gained traction, inspiring him to pursue the concept in a real way.

• While Appolition.us is another towering extension of Ziegler’s contributions towards aiding marginalized people, he knows it’s a small step towards bringing light and hope to the trying effects mass incarceration presents.

So since we are going to definitely lose Net Neutrality since nothing people say matters and the rulers are blindly evil – do you think we could push this into a fight for municipal broadband with direct democratic control? Can’t be fucked by Comcast if we create our own fiber-optic internet that is controlled by the people.

This might be relevant: http://www.lowtechmagazine.com/2015/10/how-to-build-a-low-tech-internet.html

TLDR, we can totally DIY an internet. Don’t even need no fancy-schmancy fiber optic, which makes it more accessible (and thus less susceptible to capture by the state), to the point where you wouldn’t even need to do it through municipal government–you could do it yourselves, with some friends, in your neighborhood.

Okay, given hipsters have begun to ruin bone broth, and I now have the want to know how to make it, I’m afraid to Google it for fear I’ll get the wrong thing from one of those hipster articles, so I come to you asking… What’s the right and proper way to make bone broth?

1. Throw bones and scraps of whatever animal you just ate into a pot

2. Add water to cover

3. Simmer for a few hours until all the tasty goodness has been simmered out of the scraps.

4. Strain out scraps.

5. Either sip broth straight up (it’s a tasty, warming thing on a cold day and a good food for a sick belly that can’t keep much down) or use as a base to make whatever soup or stew you like.

Really that’s the gist of it. You can add veggies like carrots and celery and spices and herbs to make it even tastier, but that’s just a matter of taste. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.

I rarely measure anything when making stock. I eyeball that shit and throw in whatever I have lying around. That’s the way I learned to make it.

But if you want a good basic recipe here’s one.

My stepmom told me a while ago to add a little vinegar to the water to pull more nutrients out of the bones themselves. Her soup always turns out pretty good, as long as she doesn’t try and add extra healthy crap to it.

I’ve seen this tip a couple times now and I’mma have to try it.

How much vinegar? Like a tablespoon for a large pot? Or more or less?

A tablespoon or two for a large pot, it appears.Â
