did I ever tell you about the time in elementary school when my G/T class did a unit on the rainforest and as a part of the unit we decorated the room with appropriate plant and animal life and when the people saw me cutting the rafflesia drawing that was almost as big as I was out of red kraft paper roll I had to show them the picture and encyclopedia entry (this was the 90s) I had found to prove that yes, a three foot wide flower exists and yes, it smells like ass to boot

dude my mom teaches elementary level G/T and she did a project with her 2nd graders where she had them each pick an animal or plant to study and this one girl chose Amorphophallus Titanum and couldn’t find many resources past the basics of the plant so my mom called me during their work time so i explained to her about how they store energy in their tubers so they can release energy when they bloom and she was literally reaching the correct conclusions about the plant before I even finished explaining it and she was so excited???? my mom said I might have a future botanist on my hands lmao

honestly this is the kind of shit I mean when I talk about how we don’t teach botany to young kids correctly. we show them lions and tigers as examples of animals and then show them like, a petunia as an example of a plant like!!! you gotta show them the COOL plants to get them interested!! no wonder they think plays are boring they only know like 3 and they’re all really simple flowers
