kravitz was a bard when he was alive, but he never played an instrument—he just had his rhyming game on lock. the first time lup and barry see him lose his temper with a suspect and rip them apart using words that flow so fast they can hardly follow them, they lose their minds. kravitz is cool? how is kravitz cool?? this isn’t at all what they expected from taako’s narc boyfriend.
Please for the love of the Raven Queen talk to me more about rapping Kravitz I am so here for that shit. Like, Kravitz is so good at rapping his Vicious Mockery literally stuns opponents. Kravitz is so good at rapping that he regularly gets paid to do so at this neat little hole-in-the-wall in Neverwinter on Tuesdays. Kravitz is so good at rapping sometimes he’ll watch Taako from the bar in their kitchen and just start like, I dunno- rap narrating whatever Taako is making just to make Taako blush? KRAVITZ DOESNT NEED TO BREATH AND HE RAPS SO FAST BARRY BOUGHT A SOUNDBOARD AND ALL OF KRAVITZ’ MIC DROPS ARE ACCOMPANIED BY WELL TIMED EXPLOSIONS FROM LUP AND EVERY 7TH MISSION THEY SEE HOW LONG IT TAKES TO VICIOUSLY MOCK A NECROMANCER TO LITERAL DEATH THEIR ALBUM IS CALLED DED BEATZ IT COMES OUT NEXT FALL
i see your rap narrating whatever taako is making to make taako blush and a raise you rap narrating whatever taako is making because kravitz isn’t allowed in the kitchen ever since he somehow set a pot of boiling pasta on fire and he’s dying. there are so many people coming over tonight, taako. he can definitely handle chopping something, sitting there like, “taako from tv, turning up the heat in this kitchen. i’m just watching him cook because he won’t let me pitch in. see him wield his knives with ease, making apple tarts with cheese. if you don’t like my rhymes, love, let me help you out, please.”
griffin mcelroy sometimes: beautifully choreographed scenes spun off the top of his head, heart-wrenching characterization, astounding visuals, emotional and intense narration
griffin mcelroy other times: you just- you- you go very- very- uh, boys, you go very, *very* fast,
Justin: This is my character Taako and he’s a fucking idiot
Griffin: Hmmmm no, actually, he’s an incredibly competent wizard who was top in his class at magic NASA, so jot that down
Justin: K, so in his backstory Taako accidentally killed 40 people through his carelessness-
Griffin: well, ACTUALLY, it turns out Taako was innocent all along! it was really his assistant who killed all those people because he was jealous of Taako, so, like, jot that down
Justin: Okay, well before that Taako spent his childhood alone on the road, and he’s kinda paranoid cause he’s never had anyone to watch his back-
Griffin: BUT ACTUALLYHE HAD A SIBLING THAT LOVES HIM MORE THAN ANYTHING AND HAS BEEN WATCHING OVER HIM THE WHOLE ADVENTURE AND DESPERATELY TRYING TO REACH OUT TO HIM SO J O T T H A T D O W N
Griffin’s real ass real world father: This is my character Merle and he’s a deadbeat dad who screws up pretty much constantly
Griffin, the son of this person: Hell yeah he is
#travis: heres magnus i love him also hes me #griffin: cool describe his death
This is the brilliant thing, though! Griffin knows the people he’s playing with so well that he responds to their characters in the way they need him to, whatever that means for them.
Clint first: Everyone, especially the three of them, know that he’s a great dad who loves his kids more than anything and is in general a really nice guy. So when he makes a character whose arc is, in part, learning to be a loving dad, Griffin plays along because it’s just a joke, and it sets Clint up to tell a story about what it’s like to be a parent, and how to be a good one- which is a story Clint is incredibly qualified to tell.
Travis: since he created Magnus, Travis has been all about his backstory and making Magnus a deep character with a lot of deep motivations behind his choices. In taking us through to Magnus’ death, Griffin gives Travis the chance to do what he’s always envisioned with Magnus. He lets Travis complete the story of Magnus, bringing some resolution to Magnus’ earliest goals and motivations.
Justin: Is a self-described socially anxious person who can be pretty self deprecating. In insisting that Taako is more talented, smart, and loved than he realizes, Griffin is responding to the parts of the character (this is only my theory, now) that reflect Justin’s anxieties. And he does it by reassuring Justin, via Taako’s story, that he is smarter, more talented, and better liked than he thinks he is.
Nothing but a theory, but I think it holds some water.
Reblogged again for this wonderful addition

spinningyarns Thanks for articulating the actual point to my original post way better than I could!
Finished my first taako animation with my toonboom harmony rig ! Colors and designs are so simple but it moves alright ! im hoping to refine it further but it was a good first test run with one of my fav taako lines. The goal is eventually to do at least one of each main since i do so love them all.
Pulled from my home inside a cloud, Lost to the dark I drift alone, Now I’ve returned beyond the shroud, Ever to reign upon my throne, Here in my Crystal Kingdom.
I saw beyond the omniverse, Far past the places we should see, But for my vision I was cursed, Torn from my home and family, Lost to my Crystal Kingdom.
Saved from the darkness by my child, Locked in a cage of glass and steel, But my true love remains in exile, Beckoning me to break the seal, Into this Crystal Kingdom.
Kept from our children, lovers, friends, Subject to laws we did not make, This is where separation ends, And souls of the lost will come awake, Enter this Crystal Kingdom.
