Sources for Lore Fact of the Week #12
I had difficulty finding a web source with this flavor text, so here are my screenshots of them.
@questifer can probably fact-check me on this, but I get the impression that the Nightborne (and, to an extent, Blood Elves) are like a classic example of “we mastered this One Cool Thing and now we have reached Peak Progress! Time to plateau literally forever!”
Elves: “Who needs bows and arrows when you can warp the fabric of the universe to make shiny things that go pew pew?”
Elves: *get trapped in a bubble for thousands of years.*
Elves: *get nearly wiped out by trolls with spears.*
Elves: *get nearly wiped out by a lichy boy and his army of walking corpses*
Elves: *get nearly wiped out by multiple demonic invasions*
Elves: *get nearly wiped out by their own magic. Multiple times.*
Elves: “Haha we’re so awesome at magic. Glory to the Shal’dorei/Sin’dorei am i rite?”
This is also why I believe that while elf food is masterfully prepared it all tastes the same! Once they mastered the perfect combination of herbs, sauces, and techniques all plates were basically prepared similarly because why change what’s been perfected? Not to say the cuisine is not delicious but more in the sense that the steaks taste the same as the chicken tastes the same as the fish tastes the same as the rice tastes the same as the vegetables – all delicious in flavor but all basically the same flavor as well!
Loved your recent Lorecraft on Forsaken, along with the sketch of Ten Arm Pattin! I’ve toyed with similar ideas in the past, such as playing a Forsaken as a Spare Parts vendor, offering both well-preserved body parts, embalming services, and of course pretty prosthetics (I imagine that some Forsaken might take to stuffing various cavities with herbs etc with either nice-smelling or embalming qualities). Additionally: Body modification/”tattooing” by embroidery! Using dead skin as literal canvas!
If you’ve had similar ideas, go for it! It’s the little details of every day life that can add so much to a fantastical setting. And the curious way Forsaken are and their lifestyle can open up such unique perceptions to their culture and society! A cause and effect of different needs to satisfy for their particular way of life. Oh the possibilities!
Think about it! Forsaken can replace parts and limbs, so of course there would a market for parts to sell or trade – and why not add layers to that too! Maybe “officially”, by Royal Apothecary standards, a Forsaken can get the better parts, but perhaps there’s a long waiting list or is expensive. So, because of that, hey, cheaper market alternatives! Sure, the products may not be so ‘fresh’ or look a little busted up, but a limb’s a limb right! Or even black market opportunities! Limbs and parts of very rare sources, or dangerous to use, with necromantic magic that’s questionable at best, but still draws in a loyal if questionable clientele…!
An embalming business could be the same equivalent of a spa treatment for Forsaken! Plump those dry sunken wrinkles, add some color back to your place flesh, fresh embalming fluids to freshen up those rotten insides…!
Fake organ vendor! All shapes and styles, colors and materials! Favorite clothes sagging on those old bones of yours? Need more plump in your rump? Stuff your empty cavities with fake organs right under your skin! Hay stuffed or herb stuffed, linen or silk, personally embroider them too for a gift! Special hollow fake organs make for great pouches and pockets to keep all your certainly legitimately acquired keepsakes!

This was done for a guildie’s birthday a couple of years ago. Alleri the mage, of <The Sunguard>.
I still like the design of the dress; maybe one day I’ll do a full version of it.

Trovos Tarhair, my shaman in Wyrmrest Accord. His strongest elemental bind is with water, so I guess he’s sorta a water-bender? Dunno, liked the concept

Whoaaa look at that old two year old pencil sketch of an old guildie!
But it’s a draenei dude so I must publish because draenei. Draenei dude.

MORE ORCS
‘Nother sketch featuring Trovos, my shaman on WrA, and Ko’graz, Trovos’ friend.
Ko’graz, like Trovos’ other friend, Krogu, is more on the lean side as far as orcs go… just like Krogu! Haha, Trovos. All your friends are runts. Funny thing is, Trovos is a vegetarian and STILL bigger than both of them.
But just because an orc is small it doesn’t make him any less badass.

This was a quickie art trade with a quildie, Rhovin, the hunter-now-rogue
Yes I know the tattoo looks flat, he sent me the png file and I just slapped it on there, ngl
