The thing with reversing tranquility is that I don’t think any monastery/hospital is equipped with handling mental care. The newly reversed would have to be gently guided and watched over. Would the Seekers of Truth have facilities for that? Or was it the Spirit of Hope that cushioned the trauma? Things like this makes me think a lot. Cheers.

There are such things as sanitoriums in Thedas, Varric’s brother is sent there if you chose to convince Varric to not kill him. But hold on, I’m have a list because I think about this a lot actually:

1.) The thing is- not all Tranquils are going to be need to be sent there. We’ve only seen ONE case of a Tranquil being cured and he was immediately attacked and threatened. He was also posessed by a demon, something that doesn’t necessarily needs to happen to cure Tranquils. Something like that would distress anyone. He wasn’t kept alive or in the narrative long enough to see what exactly the ramifications of curing Tranquils would be, let alone what kind of care they’d need.

2.) But listen, a group of people with instability issues and needs long term care and pain management? This is literally the templars at the end of inquisition. And if you are at least decent enough to support Cullen through his withdrawal, you get exactly the facility needed to support ex-templars. If templars can get something like that, there is NO REASON why Tranquils can’t.

3.) “We shouldn’t cure Tranquils because we don’t have the equipment to handle them” is kinda like saying we shouldn’t save people from burning buildings because the local hospital doesn’t have a burn unit. If you don’t have one, make one. It’s gotta start somewhere and it might as well as be now. Worrying about the ramifications of curing Tranquils is grossly out of character for ‘action now, thinking later’ Cassandra Pentaghast, and the only reason why she debates it at all is because she doesn’t think Tranquility is an injustice at all, which is rich coming from someone who was literally made into a Tranquil and then cured.

4.) All evidence points to the fact that if a mage is made Tranquil, their magic is gone. Forever. Curing Tranquility simply restores your emotions and dreams, and not your magic. So at the very worst, there are going to be a bunch of unarmed, over-emotional people who are no danger to anyone but themselves. If the Chantry or or the Seekers or Truth, or their local government claim that they can’t take care of those people because of resources, the only resource they’re lacking is human sympathy.

Adding on that if Seekers of truth basically go through the same process of tranquility, after a tranquil is cured, THEY CAN NK LONGER BE POSSESSED BY DEMONS. Ergo, no mage with magic and no possession. There is no need to fear them anymore!

Also adding on that it’s in the Chantry’s and the Seeker’s own interest to use Tranquility and the Harrowing to coerce mages into being Tranquils because Tranquils make up the bulk of the Circle’s labor force, commercially (Circle enchantments that can only be done by Tranquils) and internally (Tranquils clean, cook, and organize, does the logistics work); The Circles will literally fall apart without the backs of Tranquils that support them.

If the Chantry was really about preventing demonic posessions like they claimed, they’d simply just make people immune like with the Seekers. But we all know that their real interests lie in growing its own military and political influence so keeping the Cure a secret while maintaining an elite secret police above the law is what they do.
