Me: *falling asleep to an audiobook on the science of the gut*

Book: saliva is actually filtered blood!

Me: ʕʘ‿ʘʔ

Me: ʕʘ‿ʘʔ

Book: saliva also contains a painkiller that is stronger than morphine, but we don’t produce a lot of it otherwise we’d be constantly high

Me: ʕʘ Д ʘʔ

Opiorphin is 6x stronger than morphine and actually contains an anti-depressant compound which is why some doctors believe it’s linked to comfort eating

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20610867/

Everyone spit on me so I won’t be depressed

But so now I’m thinking about a way to apply this in fiction lol.

What if. So in this hypothetical fantasy world, vampires are a different species or maybe just affected by a virus or something.

But what if that’s why it doesn’t hurt when a vampire bites you to drink your blood? They produce an excess amount Opiorphin in their saliva and because they’re either A. A different species or B. affected by a virus of some kind, the Opiorphin doesn’t affect them! What if, in exchange for blood on a regular basis and feeding opportunities, the Vampires and Humans forge a truce for the medicinal properties of Vampire Saliva?
