glumshoe:

I was a super picky eater as a kid. I’d eat raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, pickles, mild cheese, bread, noodles, fish, and pumpkin pie. That was… pretty much it, except for that time I got adventurous and ate a spoonful of fish food flakes. (My fish liked it. I trusted their opinions.)

My parents encouraged me to try new foods but never actually forced me to eat anything except eggs, for protein. My grandmother didn’t agree with that – she wouldn’t let me leave the table until I had finished everything on my plate. Much of my time under her supervision was spent as a hostage of the dining room table… until the day she served me creamed corn.

In Twin Peaks, a substance called “garmonbozia” is described as the physical manifestation of pain and suffering. It is harvested and consumed by the demon-like entities of the Black Lodge. It takes the appearance of creamed corn.

I did not want to eat garmonbozia. It was slimy and unpleasant and tasted terrible, but my grandmother was adamant that I ate it all. I warned her that I would be sick. I WARNED her. Did she believe me? No.

Never have any of my body’s gross automatic functions pleased me so well, before or sense. That dinner table got what was coming for it…. and I technically I obeyed my grandmother’s orders. She told me to eat it. She said nothing about digesting it.
