Be sad but get up. You don’t have to shower. You can put on the same clothes you wore yesterday. Nobody will care. The sky is blue, wildflowers are blooming by the side of the road. Strangers have stories to tell. Go for a walk, go for a drive, go to a greenhouse, a bookstore, a movie theater. You can stay in bed but nothing is going to happen there. Sometimes you’ve really just got to get the fuck up.
I mean many people are clinically depressed (like me), which often results in chronic fatigue, no motivation, and debilitating executive dysfunction,
So for some people who aren’t mentally ill, this is good advice.
Oh cmon, even for people who ARE mentally ill (like myself, i experience everything youve listed almost every day) this is good advice.
Sometimes you really do just GOT to get the fuck UP.
You dont have to do much, but even forcing yourself to do a little and make progress? Thats hella important.
Yes you shouldnt push yourself past your limits, but allowing yourself to wallow within your limits and telling yourself that its always gonna be ok that you’re doing that breeds nothing but stagnation, and even more internalized resentment.
Get up. Get a glass of water. Wallow on the couch instead of your bed. Cuddle and cry with a different stuffed animal. A change of scenery can do wonders. This was never about doing EVERYTHING, but for goodness sakes you gotta do something or life never gets better.
Mental illness is not, in itself, an excuse to perpetuate your own misery.
Get up and go to your computer.
Thats what i do. I made a pot of rice in the rice cooker. Literally no effort on my part and now i have a full belly. Depression is shit and sometimes you have to beat it in the face
