I just hate how people are using this new revelation to support their ship and to hate on Adam calling him shitty and whatnot. Can we just all appreciate this beautiful imperfect relationship without making theories about why Keith is a better partner (I don’t agree with this at all btw). Bless you for your amazing post calling people out. If we don’t get a wedding we riot.

Honestly, a lot of the Adam hate is probably coming from people who see him as a threat to their ship. Because, in the end, that’s what it always comes down to with the drama. Shippers can go on and on about how “unhealthy” Adam was for Shiro, but then jump on the Sheith train like it’s the holy grail of healthy ships. 

And that’s when we get these gross generalizations about characters and the people who like them/ship them. That’s how antis are born. 

Honestly, if Adam is unhealthy for Shiro, then Shiro is unhealthy for Keith too. He’s much older, in a position of power. He was Keith’s teacher at the garrison as well as a father/brother figure. And don’t tell me “he wasn’t Keith’s teacher!” because in the leaked season 7 episode, he was in charge of a bunch of new fliers during class, as in, he was telling them what to do. Shiro was a teacher, or at the very least, an instructor. Not only that, but now that Shiro is canon LGBTQ+, him being in a relationship with Keith would only look worse because of the rampant stereotypes about gay men praying on younger, vulnerable boys. I don’t care that Keith is an adult–he wasn’t when he met Shiro, while Shiro was very much an adult in a very much adult relationship with another man. It could spiral even further into territory where Shiro was grooming Keith the whole time, etc, etc… 

Sheith is fine from an open-minded perspective of viewing people as faulted and changing, but it looks a hell of a lot worse from the close-minded perspective that people are throwing at Adam.  

And while the reasons stated above are a big part of one, why I don’t think Sheith will become canon, and two, why I personally prefer them as brothers to lovers, I don’t look at Shiro as a character and as part of Sheith and assume the worst of him because of those reasons. Just as we don’t know enough about Adam to assume he’s “unhealthy.” The show creators said Shiro and Adam had a beautiful relationship that lasted years, for crying out loud. 

It’s sheer delusion and people are just threatened because Adam’s existence threatens their ship(s). They’re rather make him a villain than appreciate the fact that Shiro had a boyfriend at all. 

It’s fucking stupid. 

This is one reason why I’m happy to see that we got mlm representation and why I’m glad they did it the way they did.

Can you imagine the fallout if it had been a non-canon ship that got made canon??? The death threats and the worst of the lot would get even worse and all these people fetishizing mlm relationships would have been absolutely vindicated.
