something that has always bothered me is how female characters like Jaina are hated and looked down upon for being angry at tragedies and injustices in their lives while male characters are glorified for the very same traits. Take Genn greymane for instance, he’s loved by a huge chunk of the playerbase and a lot of people think he should lead the alliance even though he’s an angry revengeful mess. He annoys the hell out of me, but his actions make sense, as does Jaina’s actions.. but for some reason she receives so much hate and becomes a meme while Genn is seen as cool and strong. It’s just frustrating to see the sexism of gamers seep into the way they view these characters. I’ve seen literally EVERY big female character in the WoW universe get unreasonable critique for pure bullshit. Sylvanas is too cold, Jaina is a bitch, Tyrande is weak because she loves Malfurion and a bitch for “locking” Thalyssra out of the alliance and Azshara is just a spoiled prick etc, and the list goes ON and ON. The moment a female character gains a spotlight in wow and is anything other than completely passive and complacent, that said character receives hate and I’m just so tired of it.
Oh, don’t worry, even the passive and nurturing ones get hate for not being Strong Female Characters.
Alexstrasza and Aggra? They’re just passive baby-carriers who need to man up and do more.
Also, let’s not forget the rampant body-shaming of any female character that isn’t instant boner material like Therazane or female tauren / pandas.
My issue with most of what’s going on lore wise is the awful writing that’s used to drive a conflict that only PvPers are really interested in.
Most people that i know (guild and friends of guild) are sick to death of the constant faction bullshit and that’s what is driving a good portion of the bad writing which has made these characters frustrating. At least to me.
Genn’s the one that keeps fucking everything up though. Can we please put the rabid wolf down?
